Why you should use a separate pc for domain and account admin.

There is an interesting follow up article to the Sysinternals discovery that I posted in the main forum. It discusses the subsequent comments and corporate reactions, and includes the worrying statement that Microsoft is working with Sony on the next version of Windows. The article is here.

I believe that it's worth using an old PC for important admin. You don't install any message or P2P stuff, you keep active-x permanently disabled and put j/script on prompt. Most people seem to think that using a secure server is enough - it isn't. The weakness could be in you PC, or the one used by the tech support guy you contact.

I think the newer the software; the more we’re vulnerable to corporate crime.

Take the old win 95 and 98.
You could put them on any PC you wanted too.
It is yours to keep.

Now, with XP, you really don’t own it.
You want to install it and after you call Microsoft it works.

I wonder…… Now they know exactly where your PC is.
(Funny what a ping can tell you)

The new chips are encoded with a number that is used on everything you do.
(Everything you do can be traced to your puter)

And all email is scanned by the U.S. Gov’t
(Go ahead and say something detrimental about the gov’t)

With just these few known items you have a large hole in your own privacy and security.

I believe “We are being watched”.

But, are they a friend or a foe?

All of the big companies are doing stuff like that. That's why there is such a rush to get people to load toolbars, to run ISP setup disks, and to provide free software with peripherals. It's in some ebooks, and I expect they'll start building it into printers soon.

you don't have to wait so long for the printers :P If I am right it was posted some time ago by Haui that some color laser printers automatically include in every printed document a secret code that could be used to identify the printer

Just get an old machine from the recycling centre for a few dollars, and use that for admin. You don't need much processing power to do the jobs, you only need the power for all the crap that Windows runs for the benefit of Microsoft.

If you have CPU and ram in excess, try using an emulator like "virtual PC" and run both systems in the same moment

Otherwise a dual-boot with Windows and linux on separate drives

I think it's best to keep Windows off an important machine if you can.

If you can run an instruction string at a low enough level, then nothing can control it.

Just make couple partitions and setup dual boot if you need Win for something.
