I'm trying to contact the owner of a domain...

but not quite sure how to do it. I did a whois on the domain but no email address comes up. I'm new to this so can somebody give me some advice on the best way to go about it? Thanks.

when in doubt, try webmaster@ it's worth a shot

There should be an email addy in the reg details - try www.whois.sc

If you still can't find anything, or they've got a proxy entry, then you can write to the registrar.

It's because people do this that 90% of my domains don't have mailboxes, and the others block those addies. If you want to contact the owner, you need to go through the reg details or the registrar. Alternatively, you can use Google to try to associate it with a board nick somewhere.
