Are .infos ever worth it?

I have a couple mainstream things I want to throw up mainly for search engine traffic. I am just flirting with them at the moment and am not sure which ones will turn out to be earners. As info domains are cheap at the moment I could pick up a good number of them for cheap and see what happens. However, I hear a lot of negative comments about them. Are they ever worth it?

if you develop them as informational sites they should be more than worth it.

As long as you're not submitting galleries on them, I think it's fine. I know of at least one major TGP that bans all submissions from dot infos. I feel the same way, and that's because I get thousands of emails a day for spam on dot infos.

I did put one of my paysites on a dot info because I own the .com, .net and .org already.

I would buy .info's if it is for SE i have some mainstream stuff on .info's and they are doing just as good as .com's

TIP stay away from Registerfly and there .info promo, unless you are buying more then a 100 domains it is not worth the stress you will have when you want to chance the DNS (and i am speaking from experience)

info seems to be one of the sad stories of the domain world. The concept was great, and the initial takeup was slow, but could have worked. They lost direction and dropped some of their value. Then they got impatient and greedy, and they started to give them away. This attracted a load of cheaters and killed their reputation. Instead of trying to rebuild things when the free domains came up for renewal, they made things difficult and didn't give anybody any grace. Now they are trying the cheap/free registration trick again.

They still have some credibility in the mainstream world, but other than that, I think they are in much the same class as biz domains and only a bit better than TKs.

from a surfer's point of view do you think it matters? I would just be trying to get surfers there and then off to a sponsor.

i think im more likely to remember a .com than a .info plus when it comes to selling, you can always sell a .com for more

com is good for a brandable domain, as when the surfer remembers your url he will automatically try to type yourdomain.com, but when you rely on SE traffic, is it so important?

Maybe list the pros and cons of .com and .info (and .net, .org ...)?
I really don't know other, that com is said to be the best :P

It's funny but the subject of getting infos listed on TGPs.
I guess there are some but I've used them a few times in the past
and never had a prob.
Especially now when almost everything is Partner only and you
trust the submiter not so much the domain..
Also I could list thousands of Domains that were used for Malware
or toolbars ect and none are infos.
The #1 TLD for any Trojan, adware, Virus ect is .COM so maybe they
should be refused?

Also they're bringing in some good bucks this year, alot of Hyphens also..

When there was only the com and net basicaly the internet bizz
became known as the dot coms..
Also most people typed domain names in then and it was common
to put com in the url.
Now there's so many TLDs people tend to look at the Domain name
better and remember odd ones.
Also now days people don't type in a domain name hardly at all,
that's why typos aren't that good anymore..
People go to Google ect and click a link from a SE which lists
infos as good as coms, then they Bookmark the link and use that
to go back.
