It's probably good etiquette to keep any existing link trades up, or if you really want to remove them, contact the other party(ies) to let them know you are going to be yanking link trades.

Serves well for future link trade requests

That's easiest if the seller gives you a list. Failing that it's probably best to mail the trade and see if they'll tell you what the deal is.

Why ever remove them? They are part of what makes the value of the site you just bought.

I'd keep all trades up, not sure what the benefit of removing them would be, unless you just liked the domain name so much, you wanted to turn it into a paysite or something.

benefit of removing is that your site is more valuable when you have less links out then more links out- thats what pros in this forum wrote when i had similar question about why people cheat and remove linktrades

It may be true for short term, but I am guessing when those that do link exchanges check their links, that site gets dropped........they are just hoping those people never actually check their links.

I still think it is better to do things right.
