Hot Tip: Amazon AStore as alternative to parked domain
I have a domain that I used to very actively blog on over a year ago, but over time I lost interest in the topic (religion) and so sort of abandoned the domain. Once I changed hosting companies I put it on Sedo and made all of 10 bucks in the last three months. This month I made .89 cents off a domain that averages over 5000 uniques a month, has a PR5 and thousands of backlinks. It's been niggling at me and niggling at me to do something with it, but I've been so busy with the porn stuff I haven't wanted to tear myself away.
Well, Thursday afternoon I was bored at work and started fooling around with Amazon's new Astore model and decided to go ahead and test it out on the domain as a niche store with just religious books. So I changed the name servers at work and then when I got home I quickly filled in the aStore just using some basic category tags and slapped it up on the domain with no additional customization. I figured I'd work on it over the next few weeks, adding store content and maybe creating a template so it looks proper and has some text for the search engines to grab. Then I went and redirected the gazillion 404s to the index. Today I checked my stats and I made a sale yesterday! My commission will be about a 1.86, but twice as much as I've made for the first 3rd of the month on Sedo. The really funny thing is the item sold has nothing to do with the niche! Someone bought eye make-up from my religious bookstore LOL I figure this will only work for domains with decent traffic, but if you've got some mainstream domains being wasted on Sedo, the aStore is probably worth a shot. Tooks me about 20 minutes to load it with several different categories of product and pick a color scheme. Just don't forget to set up a redirect for your 404s. If I hadn't checked my stats and seen them all I wouldn't have even realized it. |

I have a dozen aStores right now, they host them all and they fit in nicely with some of my sites. Good idea to use that instead of parking unless you plan to sell the domain

I added another one to a mainstream blog that I've been slowly working on. I put it into a wordpress page and it fit perfectly. Very sweet. The other bonus is I've been meaning to take a little time to do a maintream project just as a cover story for those folks that I don't want to tell "I sell porn on the internet". This works out just fine. Very little work, very professional look

I'm probably not explaining it that well, but if you already an Amazon associate, just log in and check out the aStore link. It explains everything. It is basically a way to run a very niched shop on your own website without having to download anything or run any scripts. Think of it as a FHG, except you select all the pictures LOL |

Just to update, I've now made $19.96 on the aStore. That's more than I made the previous three months with the domain parked on Sedo. I could really kick myself in the head for not thinking of this before the Christmas shopping frenzy. I'm only 5 sales away from getting 6.5% for the month. Woot! Also, OMG 6.5%? It is to weep!
