Shopping cart and payment processing recommendations?
A friend wants me to build him an online store that will sell hunting/camping supplies. It's been a long time since I set anything like that up and I'm very out of the loop. Can you guys possibly point me in the right direction when it comes to shopping cart software and payment processing? I have no clue where to start. This isn't going to be a huge site, I just need something decent and cheap if possible.

www.oscommerce.com and www.zencart.com are two good (free) shopping softwares.
In oscommerce you will find modules for nearly all kind of 3.rd party payment processing and allso any other module you will possible need. It is a bit heavy to work around the template structure to design it the way you want, but with a little playing around with the files you will figure it out pretty quick. Good luck ![]() |

OSC rocks, I've used it for years. I had a $10k custom cart built and dumped it for OSC.
For processing, try Google Checkout (free until the end of 2007), 2checkout and PayPal options. |

osCommerce is downright shit.
t has poor writted code php code and poor written html behind it. The templates are also horrible. If any i would recommend ZentCart (which is also quite shitty imho but still a lot better then osCommerce). Bare in mind I look at these from a programmers point off view. Not a shop opperater. The both are packed with nice features I have too say that, and both a have a big use community which contribute in the project as for making extra payment modules, extra features and kinda stuff. |

Dave,
if you use VirtueMart you may be interested in this plugin too: http://extensions.joomla.org/compone...753/Itemid,35/ VirtueMart SEO Plugin for ARTIO JoomSEF This extension for ARTIO JoomSEF enables generation of Search Engine Friendly (SEF) URLs for the VirtueMart e-business component. It enhances the built-in sef_ext file functionality. Automatically generated URLs are composed from the categories & businesses names.
