Seeing as I'm getting out of adult, and into mainstream - I'm going to be trying to stir up some more discussion in this section

I'm curious, who is using Digg to linkbait their mainstream stuff? If there's a decent number of us in here with Digg accounts, we could get a pretty good group together and give our articles/pages a healthy, initial boost. If the content is good enough, the community will take it from there. Apparently the front page of Digg is like... getting a free hun listing. Maybe not as much traffic, but you get the comparison.

So, how about it? Who is using Digg to promo their stuff?

I've only been dugg once and even with a few votes it got me some traffic and backlinks (which is more important). I certainly know of people who have had their server crash because of the jump in traffic when they get to the first page - serious diggers often convert the page to simple html to reduce the strain when using php / mysql.

As to getting a digg ring - sounds good to me I'm always after ways of getting more links / traffic to my sites.

I use it on my mainstream blog www.fannishdreams.com/blog. I don't get many "diggs" but I do get good hits off of everything when it hits the front page. You need to craft a grabber headline but I've heard people get an enormous amount of traffic from Digging their links.

I use Digg constantly... Its not a huge source of traffic unless you get a really good article, but need I remind everyone that having a PR 8 site like Digg link your site, it increases your page rank significantly.

If no one diggs my article, I'll digg it myself even.

Oh I use others as well. Del.ico.us, technocrati, newsvine, blink, etc.... it all increases your incoming links.

So I decided to go back & start using it more... my first & thus far only article which I posted 20 days ago, the first person to comment on it was a total jerk, something about how it wasn't written in english.... & the article itself was on a gadget he doesn't like. I don't know, I'm considerably better at English than most people I see online, I have no clue why he said it wasn't written in English.

I must say, this would really have dampened my spirits, had it not been for a fellow netponder who stood up for me.

Unforunately, I am very sensitive & do take things way too personally. But I guess you just learn to deal with the critism (even when it's not deseved) & ignore it.

That's basically the key - don't let the diggers (or any other community) get to ya. Half of them are probably guys in high school that don't leave their room much anyway, I don't think there's a lot to worry about. Every single page I make is written in almost a... "character". Everything I put online is completely disconnected from myself, which makes it really easy to have negative comments just roll off of you.

I certainly agree with that - I doubt if a tiny fraction of the diggers could create anything "digg worthy" themselves. Being a keyboard warrior is a wonderful thing (just look at other porn forums *cough* )

digg.com is a social networking site. Basically, digg members vote on articles / site pages. The more votes it gets, the higher up in digg it is / more visable. The highest articles get a LOT of traffic and a LOT of links from places like blogs.

All in all...it would be nice to get a nice position on digg / other social networking sites.

I had a few good runs on digg, but the traffic was not overly productive to tell you the truth ... clicking a digg button does not pre-qualify buyers or PPA clicks ...

I would guestimate that as much as 80% of the people who digg you don't even take the time to read more than your title and maybe your description.

This becomes very evident if you read alot of dugg comments

That is fair enough but if you look at link:http://www.hotguygadgets.com/blog_6.shtml on yahoo.com there's 13 backlinks to you (some of them are yours, sure) but considering it's only a week old, I think that's pretty good going and probably worth much more in the long term in effects of google / SE traffic. Hopefully more backlinks will appear in which case - woowoo.
