Never managed to make much off adsense, even on a blog that makes thousands of dollars worth of sales to amazon and other affiliate programs (Unfortunately thousands in amazon sales is still only 6% or so, but the traffic is good is my point) the adsense banners make a few cents per day, at most.

Obviously people design those ads so they won't catch people's eyes and cost them curiosity clicks, but I have to wonder.

I use Google on Sites that have high traffic and don't do badly. I have never had a problem with them. They pay direct into my bank as well so its easy to use.

My biggest issue is that they use US Dollars even for their local sites, for example I can log into adsense uk and its still showing in US dollars.

However more and more of my sites changed to oxado, purely because the click through rate is rather low with google considering the number of uniques, especially when I compare it to other contextual adverts.
