Getting a forum off the ground?
Now i know how hard it is to start a forum rolling so has anyone got any good tips to make things easier?

this is a fucking nightmare, people said only use VB but i though fuck that, its too expensive for this project and now i'm paying the price already,
two re-installs in two days, memory outrages and now the database is down. what a fucking waste of my time! |

nevermind.. i see that you are using "SMF".
can you confirm that you mean "memory leaks", when you wrote "memory outages".. that's a scary thought, as i am considering using the software. i like your forum, i like British Sitcoms __________________

i'm not sure what caused it (the script asking for more memory than the server could provide - i asked my host and even at 64mb it was crashing) but i think it was a plug in .. fingers crossed!

vbulletin is the ONLY forum script to use. If you are serious about building a good forum then do yourself a favor and invest in VB.
Kicking off a forum is hard work. I have used a couple of paid per post organizations to get a mainstream board off the ground. __________________

I use Invision Power Board and have no problems with it at all, but as with all good forum scripts it's not free.
Getting members using paid per post works however generally they don't stay active they are only there for the money, once you stop paying they stop posting. But it's good for statistics ie you get lots of posts quite a few members, so people dropping by see that you have members and posts so are more likely to register. __________________

well then I have a whole 4 dollars and 30 somthing cents =) it wouldnt hurt to be getting it in two or 3 places, what does it take 3 seconds to post somthing?
