Review site - what type?

I'm planning on building a mainstream review website and in general have everything planned but about one thing I'm not sure, what type of site would be the best?
My first thought was classic html static website, but now I'm thinking about blog type site or even website driven by review script...

What do you think? What would be the best way to go?

Mine are all via WordPress. Easy to update, easy to get comments and easy to run.

Thanks for your thoughts Pam... I also think WP would be the best way... probably for SEO too, right?

Definitely. I put one up and it has never been sandboxed and been at the top almost since Day One. I don't stuff it with keywords, just make sure the name of the product is used a couple of times without overdoing it, and it works.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed (and I need to update it today)

I used to have a mainstream review site, and I used wordpress also. It went pretty well, but back then I was lacking the skills I have now to do it better than I did.

Hi. I use to use Joomla + SMF, both free software. I'm just busy to build up a mainstream site. Not quite ready yet, but it shows what's possible. If you want, take a look.

Well, it looks very nice but I'm not familiar with Joomla... can you give some pros and cons and would that solution be better than with Wordpress?

Well, I started with Wordpress years ago, but went over to Joomla after a time. What's better? I'm not sure, if one can compare both systems.

Unlike Wordpress Joomla is a _whole_ content management system, it includes blogging, it includes other content types, it includes many more features than WP offers. For example, if I wanted I could add a Wordpress blog to my portal as a module.
Anyway, one reason why I like Joomla is the fact that I can create menus and modules in now time with just a few clicks. I mean, if you take a look at the sidebars on my site, to add the rss, movies, links or any other content is a kids game - if you know how of course. lol

Further offers Joomla a wide range of interesting extension modules. Most of them are available for free. I just installed a Hot or Not module. Well, it's not top class, but very nice and doing the job. I also connected my Joomla portal with a SMF forum. So people who are registering on the portal site are automatically forum members and reverse. Short, one has countless options.

The bad thing is that Joomla while the installation is easy has in general a much higher learning curve than Wordpress.

So after all it depends on your project. If you want a blog-a-like site, than Wordpress is doubtless the better solution.
But if you are planning something bigger that requires a lot of customizations and control with tons of content types and permission types for different users then you need to have a CMS like Joomla.

Well, if you are interested, I can post some links related to Joomla.

well, right now I'm not sure what to choose... I probably won't need a lot of features that Joomla offers and WP would be enough for me, but then again, would be great to have some additional services from start, you never know when you can need them...

I have used Joomla for one of my projects so far - was a great option, the learning curve is steep but once you "get it" - it is far from confusing and gives you way more options than WP.

The best part was my hosting offers one click joomla so installing initially was easy.

The fustrating part is Joomla does not play nice with openx - there is a new openx module in beta that should clear this up - once that is working fully I am going to move all new projects to joomla.

the other joomla challenge is the templates - there are not tons of them and designers dont really know about joomla. I am searching for a basic joomla template that I can have a designer edit the graphics for to fit.

My other sense is you are safer from hackers than in WP... dont know if this is true - just my idea in my brain.
