making simple database driven sites
Hello everybody,
Do you notice a trend in the websites you are interested in creating lately in that they all require a database of some kind to get the functionality that would make them useful? I think that this is not uncommon, so I'm voicing this question here; What is the fastest and easiest way to put together the nuts and bolts of database driven sites? The code, interface, tables, etc... As an example: A database for practical joke articles and guides that can be queried based on a number of things (locations: Dorms, houses, outside, planes, cars, -or- People: girlfriend, boyfriend, mother, friends, strangers.. etc) and displayed neatly and easily. It could be used for many things: quotes, codes, stories, recipes, whatever. This way you can devote your time to building and organizing quality content and not recreating code, designing and normalizing a database. I know PHP/MySQL well enough to do it (it wouldn't be pretty ) but I would rather find an out of the box solution or script, and then tweak it to suit the application. The simpler the better.Has anyone used DB Qwik Site? Got any recommendations? |

They're called CMS's Fribble (content management systems).
Check out http://www.opensourcecms.com to try the demo installs first before you install, it refreshes every couple of hours. They are all pretty configurable and have tons and tons of plugins and themes. I like Xoops and e107 is pretty good too, just started using that. slaxxx |

One thing about CMS' is they are not that SE friendly. If you've got more then 2 variables in the url, the spiders don't like it.
May have to look at mod_rewrite or write your own to solve this problem for better SERPS . __________________
