TUTORIAL: SEO?? Mainstream site design??

Hey guys... here is how to build a "gushing cash" mainstream site. The money is going to come from two different programs (hopefully) Google Adsense and amazon.com(.co.uk for me)associates.

Choosing the content or the site nature is extremely important. here's some points to consider-

availability of content, will it take you forever to find what you are looking for?

do you have to alter the content for your site? for example re-writing information

time it takes to get content, example if you run an article site and you have to write articles, will the return equal the amount of effort you put into research and writing?

the cost of content, is financially sound for you to buy content, will you make a profit?

how easy is it to add your content, is your site dynamic with php or asp or will you have to write out the content in html with notepad?

Here's a scenario- originally i setup thefamousworld.com as a celebrity biography site but i changed it into a dvd review site as i found it difficult to rewrite biographies available online to match my website. i have hundreds of dvd's and love watching them so this made sense to write a dvd review site. Plus i didn't have to write exact facts i could give my opinion unlike with biographies where most of the information is set in stone (born in.. mother and father where...etc)

The idea behind making a review/article site is based around search engine optimization. to get better placed in search engines, mainly google you should have a page where the text outweights the html and have a page between 5-10kb. heres a list of some of the guidelines that many people use in seo. (SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZAION)

META tags arn't required by google but a good habit..

keep META keywords to 10 or less.

Keep keywords to the left of the META description.

In the title keep the keyword to the left as well but not as the first word.

Have all your kewords in the first sentence of the webpage (with no styling).

Place your keywords in a header (H3 or larger text).

Try and put your keywords in all links, both the text of the link and and the actual link.

In your images- meaning, image alts should contain keywords.

Ok, the list is more or less endless on what you could do to give yourself the best chance of seo with keyword placement, the other thing is to have as many in bound links as possible of higher PageRank. If you do not know your page rank download the google toolbar or if you have firefox. there are a number of extensions you could you for PR, check out the mozilla home page.

choosing your domain should be pretty simple or not 95% of all domains you think of will be taken. My technique for selecting domains is to write down as many as i can think of using pencil and paper (yes some people actually still use pencils) get a list of 5 and then goto the computer and see if they are all taken, i use nameboy.com to find domains and see if ones are taken, but i use head boy here on netpond to register all my domains. im going to use the domain thefamousworld.com this has nothing to do with the site theme- but who cares? its more of a challenge then

hosting, i have always used webgemshosting.com because they are dirt cheap and friendly/quick support through icq or tickets

Site design.

the problem now is to fit everything together and place my keywords and google adsense on the page for the user to navigate easily and make them return, again and again for new updates. Although i could program blindfolded with two hands tied behind my back and using my crippled left foot im going to do everything in html as it will allow for better seo basic php includes will be used for the film menu as this will save updating evey page individually but this is not programming (really not.). stats will be gathered from raw access (webalizer or modlogan and adsesnse itself for impressions). Again i always sit down with pen and paper to draw out basic storyboard designs of each page of the site, i have done design course's but I am not just being the teachers pet it is better if you plan design the pages before you build them. i would love to show you my basic storyboards but i don't have a scanner or even a working digital camera.

Just check out the page at TheFamousWorld.com this may seem extremely bare but this is what the site will look like for the first three months. At this stage content is more important than asthetics, remember we are concentrating on SEO and not user interactivity. this is just the basic shell of the site (when this tutorial was written) so far and information will be addded over the next few days.

finally

although i have already submitted this domain (with a previous site) to many directories i am still not recieving massive traffic, maybe 10 uniques a day. submitting your site doesnt have to be major. if you get inbound links from other sites your page will be picked up by the spiders without any submission, depending the links PR and how many similar links you have will then affect your PR but do not rely on this alone.

if your using a one of the larger paid hosts for you hosting they should have a submit tool in their control panel which will allow you to add your site to many different search engines. i do not like using pograms for submitting, nothing beats adding yourself manually. Addme.com has a free 14 search engine submission tool that does get results. also submitexpress.com has a free tool but i havent used them.

remember the harder you work the more in return you'll get, you will never get handed a fortune online (easily).

Nice tutorial. I will be setting up a LOT of these sites too I hope - I got some cheap ass people who will write texts for such sites for $0.50 each! I will spend my time building sites out of it and getting linktrades.

firstly thanks for the compliment and secondly cheap ass people? where do you get them because i need some and secondly ( the serious point)

its better to write your own content as you will be more passionate about the success of the site, if you pay someone hardly anything you will get hardly anything in return.

day3:

hello... no update to www.thefamousworld.com today but i have been searching for some tips for ya's

i foudn this earlier- i have seen it mentioned on netpond before but never used it and done some research- dvd and film as keywords are not getting high bids.
Keyword bid tool

so after some thinking i search for keywords such as fitness, weight loss, exercise and diet- they all are getting about $1 each some $2 and one i see was $4 so i came up with

this is a small test to see how much traffic i will get from SE's because this is the only link i have online to it. i would add mor content but im wrecked. wish me look on saving the world from obesity

Also i am quite proud. search google for"soiled links" and you get my website! out off over 644,000 websites! (its a bit OT for the mainstream forum tho)

Important tip of the day is to-

PLAN

plan everything- if i had a scanner there would be server fulls of scanned in pages i have i have 8 full A4 pages for thefamousworld.com from code, content and graphics.

but you can plan more as the following table shows, this table is a small excel thing i have done out for target visits for the website

(extremely conservative) hopefuly 20 articles by week 4 and about 10 inbound links and 20 by week 6 abou 25 reviews

its been listed fom the previous content.. but dont ask me how it got to number one- seo tip keywords in the domain- soiledlinks.com

its also got well over 200 inbound links. nearly every adult webmaster board has two posts about !!!

Being a search engine optimization specialist needs a lot to consider, not just meta, Headings and image alt's. Many Search Engine todays aleady stopped considering meta tags since many seo specialist in the past has abused the use of this tags.
Images alt's and putting the right keyword to the link in your page sometimes resulted to so called black hat method. It means your site may be using an illegal method of optimization and may gain top rank with huge amount of traffic today and totally block by search engine tomorrow where you cannot find your site anymore to a a search engines cause they already remove your website from their index.
