Mainstream affiliate suggestions/questions

Hi peeps.

I was hoping to get some thoughts on starting a mainstream affiliates program.

In all essence, it wouldnt be a full on program, just I have a new product range I am just setting up a website shop for and would like to consider the option of paying out commision on sales from affiliates links.

My questions are this.

In Adult people are used to like 50% commisions, even in adult toys etc it is around 20% average I beleive.

now I couldnt really pay out more than 10% on sales for these what I am selling, however the average sale price in pounds Sterling will be around 700-1000, so 10% on a sale would be a nice amount.

Like I said I havent started promoting the site yet, I have just been selling these products on EBAY for the last few weeks.
Now if that is anything to go by, I think with decent targetted traffic It could easily get a regular flow of sales, it may not be loads, but with a good SE Worker who could get toplistings on related keywords then I reckon at least 2 sales a day for the good affiliate wouldnt be hard.

So Basically, would anyone be interested in selling something Extremely Expensive, increasingly popular, not very saturated, and as a final thought, although being expensive, I am THE Cheapest around right now for these products so sales with targetted traffic searching to buy these would be almost guaranteed.

If it's a good product, but expensive to produce and ship and therefor the affiliate payout would be low, I would explain that on the webmaster page. When it comes down to it, it's all about how much they earn per click. If they can promote your product and make more than they would promoting something else, then that's what matters.

I agree, if I can pay just 10% on sale, but that could be worth $100 or more, and if I can ensure that my products are cheaper than all the competition too, then price per click for affiliates should be good.

I think the explantion on the WM page is a great idea, lay all the cards out on the table, take it or leave it sort of thing.

well, one of the products I will be offering is a 15"x15" Heat Press, among others, and that will go for 500 plus postage, 10% of that sale nets you 50 pounds sterling.

Considering its unbeleivably hard for anyone in the UK to get one of these for less than 6 bills plus postage, anyone who is surfing the net for a heatpress and they are UK based will more than likely be buying it from me.

Plus, you get all the other stuff I will be stocking that probably 8/10 heatpress buyers would want aswell, bringing average sales up to easily 1000 pounds sterling.

Traffic may not be abundant, but the traffic that wants it willbe very profitable for anyone who can harvest these surfers for me.

i googled "what is a heat press"....................check out google for that and variations on heat press.

they are 5-7 people bidding on the words on each page, and they are selling it for $449 and cheaper.

JMO.....this is the kinda thing i'd just sell myself and not take affiliates for. aren't there kinda a limited amount of people in the world buying stuff like this?

Dave, a heat press, as I just learned, is what you use to transfer patterns and logos onto t-shirts. So just for commercial use, they do vary widely in price though.

There is only a limited amount of possible customers your right, I was thinking it might be worthwhile but for commercial big equipment like this it probably isnt an affiliate program material, although there is potential for sales i could probably reach that full potential myself, as it may be like 10-15 a week max.

and the $449 is a real gimmick on that site, only get that price when you buy $399 worth of transfer stock, otherwise the press is $749.

Anyway i am aiming to Uk customers only for now.

Most mainstream affiliates payout around 10%. Sounds like you got something good. I'd be curious to take a look.
