From Scratch!

I feel there are some aspects of the whole mainstream website building and promoting that I lack.....so if you all have a minute to spare, comments would be appreciated.

Say I register this domain name today....got it, pointed to my hosting. I've started with my logo or header, a simple layout and I'm hoping that someone will find me. I check the stats, there is abolsutely no traffic, big fat zero's for miles to come........ now how would I get some peeps looking?

1. Add a ton of text related content?
2. Focus on great keywords and phrases?
3. Link dump my domain name on boards?
4. Trade links? With who, adult is much easier...
5. Buy Traffic?

What would you do?

I usually start by doing some basic SEO work, then dump my new url on linkdumps. That will cause my site to get spidered and I'll see some incoming SE clicks.
Then I look for link trades. Normally just doing searches for sites in my niche, and signup for various toplists. Since I use a toplist script to trade links on all my sites, others can come and signup easily.
I don't do many hardlink trades, but if I were, I would defiently use one of those scripts for that, or many will remove your link and you'll never know.

Posting on boards for linktrades helps too

You need incoming links, the way I get links when I start a new niche is I build my own, I make a couple of sites that will get listed on other sites, Dmoz and the likes and submit them, for every " nice " domain I have I will build 5-20 feeder domains. If your posting links on adult web boards, linkdumps and the likes watch out for death by association.

I look for easy domains to build, " pictures of " is a fav term of mine, as content is just a digital camera away.

Basically getting a couple more domains and linking them in one way or another? Can you use free hosted "fake" sites to link as well or would you get better results with a domain name as in www.domain.com/subname?

I've read posts like this before, that linkdumps aren't good etc. But I only submit my non adult site once, to both adult and mainstream dumps. And that's enough to get spidered and listed... Have you noticed any different?

lol yeah, I don't have any mainstream dumps worth sharing. Lately I've just used my own linkdumps to submit my new urls. I've gotten spidered and Se traffic the next day so I haven't bothered with searching for more dumps lol

How quickly do you link the feeder sites to the main site, and do you use different WHOIS info on the different domains?

My planning from scratch:

Have an idea for a topic
Do some keyword research
Buy a domain
Create a simple but appealing design
Creat on topic content (remembering the keyword research)
Link it from my other mainstream sites
Wait to be indexed / get PR
Ask for link trades on mainstream webmaster boards
Add content every few weeks

Unfortunately I never follow my own plans, and I have never done all those steps in order. I've found to miss one step is to kill the whole plan. You can vary everything, but to target the wrong keywords, or not have inbound links will kill it for sure.
