Getting around "approval" from mainsream sponsors - any tips?
The way it used to be, and I'm assuming it's still the same, was that the mainstream sponsors would come to your site and look down their nose at you and "approve" you before you could be an affiliate.
Some of them are just looking to make sure you're not going to link to them from an adult site, while others will reject you on anything from "not enough traffic" to "nothing on your site relates to our product". Looking at writing ebooks, it doesn't matter that I don't have a pet-specific page if I want to write about raising Spot and include a referral link for doggie t-shirts. But I can't do that if the sponsor comes to my mainstream sites (tech, homeschool, humor) and decides that doggy products won't fit in with my content. Can anyone think of a way to get around this? Maybe just make a generic publishing site showing some ebooks that you've written and submit *that* as the mainstream URL? Maybe then the sponsors would get the idea that you plan to *create* something based around their product and not immediately hit "reject"... anyone had any luck with this sort of thing? __________________

Not a whole lot of them actually do regect anyone, and in my experience those that do aren't worth the effort of chasing. Course if they are the only option for a specific product or niche that might change things, but generally you'll find plenty of others.
