what script for mainstream site

Im planning on starting off on some mainstream stuff pretty soon and would love to be able to use a script of some sort to build up a site. I like wordpress as i can use categories and make pages but i couldnt use it for a content site as i dont want other peoples comments or dates on each article. Does any one know, or use a script for a content site that they can recomend? I want to be able to have categories, with sub categorys and be able to fill this site with articles without the need to update on a regular basis ( only update when i want) so a blog is out of the question. Does this make sense?

Search www.hotscripts.com for cms scripts. There is a bunch!

If you like/want WordPress but not the comment/date stuff then you can use it.

Edit the template and just delete those lines of code from template. Its not hard, the code is located in index.php

Thanks lads, i'll look into these right now. Its hard for me to describe what sort of script im thinking about as im not quite sure my self but i have some sort of idea.
If i did use wordpress, would there be and disandvantages from using it if i didnt update it regularly?

mambo(http://www.mamboserver.com/) is an awsome cms program if your not looking for a blog type (wordpress) and its a massive open source project so you don't have to worry about pay and there is alot of mess with.

There is no such thing as mambo anymore! Try www.joomla.com
You can test several scripts and cms' at www.opensourcecms.com
Hope you find what you are looking for (they are all GPL'ed)

If I were you, I would use Wordpress.

If you dont want the comments, you can edit the theme, so it disapears from the layout.

Wordpress is a blog not a cms. and ting tong your wrong. mambo is still alive and joomla is an off shoot of mamboserver

You can disable comments for any post you make in Wordpress, or you can turn off comments completely.

That being said, there are plenty of free article directory scripts out there. Article Dashboard is one that's free and easy to use.

PS - If you're looking to drive traffic to the site easily, go with Wordpress so that you can automatically ping a bunch of traffic pumps whenever you publish something new.
