I want to build my own forum, do i need any software? what will i do to make my forum have many visitors?

There are several free forum software available.
http://www.phpbb.com
http://www.simplemachines.org/

Also paid ones like
http://www.vbulletin.com/

Whatever one you choose, be sure to keep it updated. You don't want to get it exploited.

To get visitors :
* dump your links everywhere you can (linkdumps, bbs, other forums,...)
* linktrades with other forums and sites
* unmoderated (not punishing spammers, passwordtraders,...) will get you more traffic and burn all your BW without ever getting you a single cent.
* moderated = the way to go ... the HARD way to go...

Forum = LOTS of work...

Please keep in mind that it's very difficult to get members and to keep them coming back. You will need to loads of research and remember to find a good niche

And start with free forum software, just to learn.

yeah - don't build your own forum - that's hard

FUDforum is also considered secure, it's written by a PHP guru.

why not get someone who's gullable to mod - someone who wants to do it because they enjoy the subject or something?

Maybe you should buy vbulletin, that's pretty much only way to get some traffic and to make user go back to forum.

Yeah sure, don't start investing in Vbulletin immediately. And it IS DEFINITELY NOT the only way to make users come back.

right, a forum where we discuss about adult affiliates, free forum sites don't accept adult contents, so that i want to build my own forum, but it's very difficult though.

it takes 10 min. to pop up a phpbb forum, but the difficult part is how you gonna make members to your forum.

Remember, there are 100's of adult webmaster boards out there allready, and new ones are poppin up (allmost) every day.

Not to discourage you, but you havent actually chosen the easiest path

If you ever decide to get SERIOUS the only way to go is VBulletin! Just my 2 cents. I'm a wowbb user if I start another forum it WILL use Vbulletin.

I wouldn't go for an entire AWM forum right away.

Better to start with a free surfer forum that has an AWM section (AWM's WILL come to your surfer forum anyway to spam their stuff

)

Then you can get their attention there...

Getting traffic to an AWM forum is hell, dude.
And others will NOT like to read "spam" from the competition on their forums so you automaticaly get a NO-NO from the best trafficsource...
