WebSite Buying
lets say i want to purchase a website that has a nice Goole ranking for some keywords that i am interested in.
If i buy the domain and content, and transfer it to a new host and a new domain registar, could the google ranking be affected? Will the site still rank high for those keywords? The site will be on a new IP address......so google could like/dislike that The domain info will be different.....again google could like/dislike that what do you think? |

IMHO google posted some time ago that nearly 200 influencing variables are used to calculate PR and SERPS.
One thing was the registration duration for the domain: the longer, the better I think there is also a (small) difference if you host your site on a single IP address or if your site is hostet with 255 other (maybe porn) sites. If the site has a good ranking for some rare keywords and good incoming links I would give it a try. Just my 2c ![]() __________________

I can't say for sure, but with my main site which is 4 years old, i changed my hosts 4 times and did a full revamp of files (including all meta tags and overall tree structure) twice, yet it never affected my pagerank. This being said, I'm still the owner of the site, but google don't know it. I could have sold it and new owner would move it to their servers and upload their files, which from googles point of view would be no different from what I did, and there was no change done to my ranking.
One more thing - I also had a change of registrar done, having used GoDaddy option of private registration after 2 years, I changed the data from my name into Domains By Proxy. This made no difference either. DISCLAIMER - none of what I said above is an expert advice. I do not know how exactly Google operates in this regard and can not guarantee it will be the same for you. All i mentioned was my experience. Mark |

I've changed the name of the owner, registrar, server, IP and the whole structure of the site two times over the passed two years on one of my mainstream sites. Didnt change my PR.
I don't think it would have any affects on your PR. What would have an affect on your PR is if you lose links that links to your site. This is pretty much the most important thing about PR - having valuable sites hardlinking you. MarkMarek disclaimer goes for me too. __________________
