How do you make a profitable site thats picked up by the search engines?

Say I want to make a site for the search engines.
I'm making a fansite now about World of Warcraft.

I want to put some Google Adsense on the page and make money from clicks (Im guessing thats the best way to make money, right?)

So I make a page with some screen shots of WoW and talk about the game and stuff, all of it on 1 page.

On the page I put my meta keywords and descriptions.
Then I submit it to all the search engines.
And thats it?

I can do this several times a day with several subjects, but Im afraid I missed osmething and after a year of building these pages Ill miss something vrucial that will have me having wasted all the work I did.

These days it's very important to get links to your sites and pages from other sites. You don't need to submit to search engines, they 'pick up' your site by finding it through the links pointing to your sites.

You also need to look at things like keyword density, the amount of text on your page, the text used in links pointing to your site - there are literally 100s of variables that have a small effect on your rankings.

You could check out the SE forum here, or the big mainstream SE boards such as WebmasterWorld for more info.

If my sites are brand new and have no traffic, should I just make more sites and link them to each other, or try to find other sites to link trade with?

If Im new and have no traffic then I have nothing to offer another site in terms of a link trade, so I dont know who would want to trade with me.

Start with one site make it good with lots of pages and great content

run adsense on the index and make a page about wow gold which is the games most profitable term and use adsense on this as well but make it the most visiable link after your adsense on the index.

Put up a links page and exchange links with as many sites as u can.

write 5 plus good pages of content and link these back to your index and wow gold page. Make each page on a seperate topic and use good title tags and description tag diffrent for each page.

Look for some links to buy to boost your pagerank

write some more content

wait for pagerank to update

delete all your links and go looking for a new lot. keep repeating

thats cool. I have no feelings or attachments to the pages I make, I just want fat paychecks.

I need to know what it feels like to get a big check in the mail and deposit it. That desire is stronger than anything else in me.
