Ebook sellers $$$
I'm baffled here. I just got off the phone with someone and he was telling about a guy who started selling his ebook a couple weeks ago...I've seen this guys website and actually read over some of his ebook, and it wasn't very impressive to me at all. The kicker is this guy is claiming to make money after only a few weeks, sales of a few $100 a day, and even a day he made $1500.
I mean this guy would have no reason to lie about what he's making to the person that has told me (I can't be too specific cause I don't want people to find out what I do ![]() Do you guys think this is possible? __________________

Sure, if you can push enough traffic to your site, some of it will 'stick' so to speak.
If he made $1500 in one day, maybe ask how much he paid to make that... __________________

Yeah, I would find out what his actual "profit" is. A lot of ebook sellers pay to get traffic and lot of them have affiliate programs where the afilliate makes about 50% of the sale. Nevertheless, it's a good market to get into - from my own personal experience.
It's completely do-able, but you have to be prepared to throw some traffic at it to get results. __________________

multiply that result x 20 ebooks. if you are working traffic right in mainstream it is all automated. In adult we say "build and forget" it is much harder to do in adult now a days. Now you must rebuild and reuse and resubmit a lot of the traffic sites you have.
Mainstream you get to build and forget! Even 100 a week x 20 products is a nice bit of change for one time effort. The people making 10,000 or more a month are making traffic funnels, upselling products, clients sticking around to purchase more and more from them. __________________

Is it best to write your own or is there a place to get ones to resell (other than the offers on Ebay that I don't trust).

Sarah there is a few ways to do this. You can make your own rather easily. If you want that info I can get it to you. You can purchase an ebook with resell rights or you can find viral books that you can pass along for free. The links in the viral books will be someone elses and you cannot change them but you will be able to build your email/newsletter list using someone elses product. Then once they know and trust you (with regular emails) you will be able to sell them other peoples products (ebooks are just one product). There are affiliate programs in mainstream as well. Most of them are not very evolved but that is to your advantage because it means you wont have alot of competition. As long as you can make sites and banners you can use these lesser developed programs.
Its all about the niche...what niche you want to develop. You have to be able to produce traffic and in mainstream that means you have to be willing to type text..ie make emails, sell with words. You could just find a way to get traffic to an affiliate link as well. You asked about ebooks... I would suggest you make your own but there is a bit of a learning curv on that. Not hard but easier to get that info from someone who has studied it and made a book. Anyone interested let me know, I can write some tutorials. I know that Thomas and Bald Bastard and even Dane have done some tutorials but I cannot remember on specifically on writing an ebook. You can try search first. Let me know here. __________________

I can write so I am not against writing my own. I would be very interested in reading any tutorials you write or having any information you can share.
I push some cj.com products but until recently I hadn't made a choice to take it seriously. I would very much like to break into a bit of mainstream. __________________

Well I think that I can only do this in stages. There is so much to say and I will start right at the beginning assuming that you know very little about ebooks.
First off. Ebooks are part of what mainstream calls "information products". An ebook is a delivery method. You do not have to limit your thinking in product production or promotion to just text. Audio and videos are becoming very popular. All of the marketing really focuses around building an email list, building a community, building connections with like minded people. The start of this is really research. You need to choose a niche that is both profitable (people who have money and are willing to part with it) and a niche you can find a need in. I will quickly run past each section/step but then provide more detail in another post: 1. research your niche which will become your topic for an ebook and various other forms of text (like articles, newsletters, sites, blogs etc)that drive traffic 2. its good to think about the bigger picture and start with the ebook as the bottom of a funnel with many mini/free/cheaper products at the top that feed lists that you will market your ebook too or feed traffic direct to the ebook. An article can feed traffic to a page that "squeezes an email" out of someone (squeeze page with a purpose of getting someone on a niche specific list) or it can feed direct to the sales page. You can spend some time thinking of an even bigger picture but I suggest you start at the ebook and work up then when that is working well think about that bigger picture. It can include a monthly membership product or home study product or more expensive ebook. 3. Your ebook should be researched and outlined and every part of it used to build your marketing tools. Examples, an ebook has sections, each of these can become a number of articles or you can give away free a much more scaled down version of the ebook to build your list or to drive traffic direct to the larger/paid version (or both). Many more ideas I will expand on. 4. You write or have someone write your ebook(s) and articles and even newsletters. You plan it all out. A great automated strategy is to use autoresponder series as if they are newsletters or as if they are promised reports or tutorials. Each message will upsell the ebook. 5. Find other existing products (look thru click bank for example) that are similar enough to yours to market to your list or on your blogs and free sites. 6. Set up an affiliate program for your larger ticket ebooks. Use clickbank or paydotcom.com for payment and you can use a very simply affiliate program and gain exposure at the same time as people often search there for products to sell to their list. You can also recruit for the affiliate program in many of the the same ways that we do in adult. 7. Watch for ways to automate or hire out the entire process. In adult we talk about a matrix of sites, in mainstream they refer to the funnel and the list and repeating the same thing over again. You can write an ebook all you want but you have to consider how you will get traffic to it to make money from it. Its no different then building an avs or tgp, you need to know how people are going to find your site, where is the traffic coming from. I will add posts to this as time permits to expand on the points. Even then it will not be extensive. There are so many ideas and things you can do to get traffic or set up your products to upsell each other or other peoples products. A great strategy is to make your ebook based upon an upsell of a large product out there. There are some affiliate programs that have monthly membership products. You can make your ebook all about getting traffic to the monthly membership product of some affiliate program out there. More soon.... __________________

Well as you can see from my last post, marketing an ebook can be simple or very complicated. You need to decide what your plan is. Will you keep building on one niche until you are making great recurring money with a membership based affiliate program? All started by making your first ebook? or will you make many ebooks with a simple traffic pump? Maybe its articles a blog and a newsletter/email collection ?
Many people will tell you that a list is gold. They say that most lists make sales over and over for their owners. Lists also take energy. You have to build trust, to give a personality and give some content. Ok a piece of advice...you have to start. You have to just start. Do not get sold on the idea that you will make one ebook and it will be perfect. You have to work your way through all this. Just get started! Learn as you go. Test and trash. Repeat what works! Okay my first point.... 1. research your niche which will become your topic for an ebook and various other forms of text (like articles, newsletters, sites, blogs etc)that drive traffic So how do you research? There are so many places to go like ask.com, yahoo answers, forums, every day life. Look at what is on the cover of your favourite magazine. You are looking for the questions....that you can research and provide the answers too. If your business plan is to make an ebook that will drive traffic to a larger product that is part of someone elses affiliate program, then you will want to look for that product. Get ideas, write them down, spend a significant amount of time on the research phase. Consider reading anything that is in the niche you are seriously considering. Not so that you can copy, so that you can make something of your ebook that is that much better, that answers questions that are not answered etc. Ask the important questions.... Is this a niche you feel comfortable in? Do you think you can spend hours researching and thinking and writing about this niche? It doesnt have to be something you are already well versed in but that would help. Just make sure its something you really want to learn about. Is there a need? can you find a significant amount of unanswered questions around? Do people say that they need answers in this niche? Can you see it? Do you already have ideas of how to pull together the answers to a number of related questions to come up with an ebook? Is this a niche where the people who need the answers have money to spend? No point in making an ebook for children unless you know that parents will be more then happy to get it for their kids. Alot more likely would be parents who want to buy something that is going to answer questions about problems they have WITH their kids. What is the competition like in the exact keywords your ebook will have? Are you thinking of articles? Adsense? trying to rank in the engines? Check out the competition. Some competition means that people pay for the niche info but way too much competition is not all that great either. In adult there is only so many niches. You can count them. In mainstream it seems infinite! Usually you will have too many ideas and have to deal with the struggle to stay focused! If you can look for questions to answer, these can become your framework for your ebook. Read a number of ebooks and you will see that the chapters are just questions with answers. The answers can spawn many blog entries, an autoresponder series and even tons of articles! You really need to plan out something beyond your articles. How much you plan depends on how much infastructure you want to build around your product. If you put together an ebook answering just 5 to 6 questions it is a small ebook. You might want to consider this as a lost leader like a 1.00 in exchange for an email address OR you might want to give it free and encourage the reader to pass it along (viral marketing) but put many affiliate links or links to your ebook or other products. Pick something and start to plan it out. Envision your product and its marketing structure. Plan the ebook, the articles etc in point form before you even start to write the ebook. You will thank me for this advice. Writing an ebook and having little idea of how to make articles for it or how you could say anything more is not going to work as well. This process is going to take time. Your first book (depending on its size) could take anwhere from 2 weeks to a month or more depending on your speed. I think there are some people who can work without distraction and some that need to take it slower. Everywhere you turn in mainstream there are informational products explaining how to market. You can spend 10,000 dollars on products. You need to be picky on what you buy. You will end up spending more then you bring in. You need to stay focused. In adult there is so much given away for free. In mainstream they sell it. Adult affiliate programs give away all these tools and such. Mainstream will make a tool and sell it to their affiliate program list. It can be hard to resist the next product that promises you that they can show you or teach you to be rich. I know I have bought my share. This is kind of like the smoker telling you not to smoke. Everyone will try it. Just quit as soon as you can. You dont need to read about how to make money as much as you need to do the work to figure out how to make money. Build your empire not someone elses. Try to network with others who are working mainstream. Try out your ideas on them. Have regular gab sessions to talk about a book you read, a strategy you tried etc. This will be time well spent. Explain your plan to generate traffic and interest in your book to a peer. The process of explaining it will be quite helpful and they may have great suggestions. At the end of your research you should have many ideas, you should have focused your choice down to a few and you should spend some time with the ideas. Give it a day or so to chose which one to start with. Your research should provide you with outlines of the ebook and any of the other marketing/traffic generation tools you will use. You should feel a passion to get writing. You should feel like you are relaly on to something others will pay for or that will wet their whistle for your upsell products. ......more coming.... __________________

2. its good to think about the bigger picture and start with the ebook as the bottom of a funnel with many mini/free/cheaper products at the top that feed lists that you will market your ebook too or feed traffic direct to the ebook. An article can feed traffic to a page that "squeezes an email" out of someone (squeeze page with a purpose of getting someone on a niche specific list) or it can feed direct to the sales page.
Ok as I keep mentioning, you really need to choose a strategy or plan if you will. Typical strategies can include many and often include all possible forms of traffic. Just like you will see in adult where people drive tgp traffic, freesite traffic, pay for traffic, seo traffic and any trading possible....the same for mainstream. Typical starting points are mini ebook thats free and viral so people would be interested in passing it along. It might be very interesting, funny and easy to tell others about (maybe you have a tell a friend script). Inside it would take opportunities to upsell a product that you made or an affiliate product someone else made. While doing this you can build your list because a free product is a great way to squeeze an email out of someone. When you market to this list in the future you will need to keep on topic. If your free ebook was about dating then you need to atleast tie all products you sell to them in by telling them straight away "whats in it for them". Maybe you want to sell them a book about staying safe online, it needs to relate to how to stay safe using the dating sites, strategies for meeting people etc. Other layers to this is to have a big product in mind...say a membership product or physical "home study" type product. Something that is upwards of the $200.00 mark and could even be close to $2,000.00 the membership 29.95 a month recurring. Then you start making your smaller products that upsell it. Then you design the press releases, the articles, blogs, podcasts, viral ebooks, tele-seminars, websites, post in forums etc that upsell these mid sized products. Ok so you might have : articles blogs podcasts newsletters viral (free) ebooks or reports autoresponder series forum posts all upselling an ebook that you charge 49 - 69.95 for then you will use that book and that list of people to upsell a 29.95 a month membership program (hopefully average stay is 6 months or more) and from there you use both products to market a much larger 1 -2,000.00 product. Ok a few things about the squeeze page. It is usually very short. So one viewable screen. It usually has a typical sales page headline...big bold type, usually red but doesnt have to be. You need a statement that "evokes emotion and says whats in it for the reader" all in one line. Be clear on what you are asking them to do and why its of benefit to them to do it. This is a squeeze page...just found it randomly from emails that I get (lists I have signed up for) so not getting anything for posting this optimindzation.com please paste it in your browser. Not sure that they will want a link from an adult board. See how its short and to the point and the only action they want you to do is sign on for your free access and then the great thing? they have a mini survey which will help them to determine what people are looking for as well. When you get inside you traded your email for a sales page. The free product is then delivered via email (auto responder series). The sales page markets a 29.95 product that you will have to pay an additional 6.00 to get delivered to your house. Click through to the payment page and you can see they recap the offer and guarantee again. So there are tips and techniques to everything from articles to viral ebooks. Even sales pages are an art. I will get to those later. I cant even begin to say I am an expert but I can impart what I have learned so far. So to this point you should "get" that you have to pick a plan and get started and you can add on things from there. If you start with a simple plan it would be to pick an affiliate product you think is a winner and pays a great percentage (atleast 50 percent) and design a viral ebook, report or autoresponder series that helps you to build your list and upsell the product. You will need traffic so you use your signature in related forums, you write articles each day (similar to tgp traffic) and you consider paying for traffic in other peoples lists/ezines. Sometimes they only charge 50.00 for a few thousand emails. You can even pay for adwords or ppc in the other engines. Trade links, make blogs, make myspace pages, yahoo groups. What ever would fit your niche. When you build your skills and confidence you can move on to other things. Build your bigger products or build the same set up for a new niche. It is like in the adult arena...not everyone has to build bigger products. Infact you do not have to write anything if all you want to do is use ppc. I would not suggest paying for private label articles (articles written and sold to a very select few with rights to use as you please) or paying for ghostwriters unless you have the entire plan and can even point form the ebook or report you want the ghostwriter to make for you. Be specific on what direction the book takes. Then let them fill in the meat. __________________

Great posts, Susanna!
You guys mentioned Dane's threads, here's a fantastic one explaining how to make a viral ebook and what to do with it. This would be one of the "smaller" ebooks/reports that Susanna's mentioned that you would give away for free on a squeeze page or charge a minimal amount for, not the "big" ebook lower down the funnel that costs $50-$60 bucks. He covers every step, from just thinking about it to researching it, writing it, finding products to sell in it or alongside it... everything. http://www.netpond.com/showthread.ph...59#post1230359 __________________

Yup thats a great one Carrie. Infact I read that one with verocity. I only started my journey into mainstream in December of last year and I was still in learning mode in March.
Now the cool/interesting/weird part? I am still learning. As you can tell from my posts there is alot to all this. It can be simple and yet complex. That is what is attracting me to mainstream. I was really getting burned out and bored with adult. __________________

3. Your ebook should be researched and outlined and every part of it used to build your marketing tools. Ok with regard to research...Read Dane's thread. Information products are all about the answers...basically answers that are there if someone wanted to go to the effort of researching them. Information products are about researching for people. If you think of it that way you will be able to get into this. My point here was more about thinking big picture when writing. When you get good at this you write the titles and subtitles and titles of articles and other products. You can easily reuse articles as an autoresponder series. Its similar to reworking your sets of content! Your signature line in a forum can be very intrigueing if you link them off to content you produced. If your answer directly relates to an article you have submitted or a blog post you have made then link to it within your answer! When you are producing content (writing) its easy to spam it because it is something of value! I am talking forums, myspace posts, blog posts. With regard to articles...there are probably over 100 places to submit too. I would suggest trying to find places that niche and accept only your niche. I would imagine thats a much better link for seo purposes and for driving actual interested traffic. There is even tools you can use to submit articles, similar to chameleon submitter. more to come... __________________
