Howto promote mainstream

Okay,

I know how to make sites, optimize them for seo etc etc. Only the biggest thing that keeps me away from mainstream sites is that i dont really know how to promote these kind of sites.
As far is i know it works different then adult sites. You cant just put a table of links on it, or put a cj script on it.
So how do you people with mainstream sites gain some free traffic, cause i know also how to buy ads

IMHO hardlink trades for SEO are the easiest and most effective free method.

SE traffic or readers on blogs! Bookmark traffic if you have lot of content!

it's true it's very different, after selling email ezines I thought getting people to install firefox or other google pack programs would be a snap, but it just doesn't happen! In adult you can at least count on people clicking links, but in mainstream it's a lot harder. Not to mention the commissions are very low, get someone to spend 200 bucks on amazon and you get 10$

It's certainly a different world

Link exchanges will bring you some free traffic, also will help you to get more SE traffic ... also, work with blogs which will bring you some nice traffic - best option are free blogs from blogger.com ... you can make few of them daily, do a link exchanges on them and also link them together ... also, as seeandsee said, if you have interesting content on that blogs offer your visitors to bookmark your site ... also, you can offer free e-books and make them available to download only if visitors join your mailing list, that will give you ability to mail them with your new sites, offers and similar so that will be more free traffic for you ...

Sometimes you have to spend money to make money. Actually 99% of the time you have to spend money to make money. Everyone is so busy looking for free ways to do things and there is LIMITED money in free systems, (that's why they're free.)

Can't say it's not true, it is in most parts, but you can also work with free systems if you know how to work with them ... that's that old phrase "think outside the box" ...

I now have over 8000 uniques a day to my Consumer Electronics Weblogs network, and the vast majority of my traffic was from frequent blog and pings, making sure my keyword densities were in check, and paying attention to what was being searched for in my stats, and capitalizing on it.

I have bought a couple adwords compaigns, but most of my traffic is home grown.

It has taken me 2 years of persistant hard work to get to this point, --several times I felt like saying FUCK IT! -- but the last 4 months have really made it worthwhile!
