Pagerank - what is that really worth?

It can be a pain in the ass when doing link exchanges. I have a site, 1500 uniques a day, first page of google for my selected keyword and the PR1. I get so many crappy requests from people not doing their research and judging a link exchange based on PR alone...

Are you talking to me, my friend? If yes, please take a closer look at my post. It's easy to read that I say by myself that the pagerank is useless. I guess useless is the same like worthless?

Further. Just a short look in the link ex-change forum shows that many, many webmasters want to do link trades with pagerank sites only. So if I want to ex-change links with all these many, many webmasters I have to take part on the pagerank competition no matter if I know how useless the pagerank is. I must just do it just because they simply don't ex-change with me, when my site hasn't the rank that they require. That's what I wanted to express with my reply.

Maybe google started pagerank as something expressly for entertainment value and as something that really didn't mean and wasn't supposed to mean anything...but by US setting our own standards on it as to whether or not we will trade with one another based on a sites PR, we have made it matter, at least in our biz.

And kind of internal quality seal? Okay, but it's to fake, isn't it?
Anyway, perhaps link trading forums should be splitted in "pagerank required" and "pagerank not required". Just a thought.

Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important

Pagerank doesn't reflect traffic but it can be worth money because we're in a business where appearances matter. It's not hard to understand.
