Pagerank - what is that really worth?

Well, I guess this question was asked already a zillion times. Sorry, that I do it again. But somehow I don't get it.

I mean, what's in simple words the benefit of a high page rank? I thought a good pagerank is a help to get a better rank in the google search results. But that is obviously wrong. For example when I type in "sexworld" - that is the name of my site - into google, I have to notice that the very most of the sites which pop up in the top ranks have no page rank at all.

So if it's not good for to get a better search engine rank, what else is the pagerank good for?

it's good for trading links with. Alot of people are more willing to trade with a site that is page ranked compared to a site that isn't

The pagerank is all around present.
But when the pagerank is just a number what does it matter, if a site has pagerank 3 or 4 or only 1?

Pagerank is good for selling domains and links to people who don't understand it.

It's also good for Google, because it cons the gullible into installing their spybar.

Unless it's a PR5 and above it doesn't interest me at all. A large percentage of my sites had the PR dropped from PR3-4 to PR1 a few months back but I see no drop in traffic at all.

So in my opinion, PR is worth shit unless you're doing the whole buying and selling sites, domains and links biz.

Google has stated publicly that page rank is for entertainment purposes only, and that it has no relevance to SERP ranking. It's too easy to fake as well, so be careful if you are purchasing anything based on the notional PR concept.

Page Rank is indeed not very important when it comes to your ranking.
You can see it as a cool thing to have, but you sure can life without it

Page Rank, have a look in the Wiki, and that explains it in a very long winded and scientific manner.

The Page Rank has nothing to do with traffic, just the amount of links that go in to the site, and what position they are and the likelyhood of a surfer clicking on to them.

That is just the first page of the book.

PR is how google is rewarding your site according to their google webmaster guidelines and a lot of other algo's that are more of a basic SEO nature, as you are mentioning above.
However, as Head Boy stated, PR is mostly of entaertainment purposes, and it is funny how much weight ppl actually gives it.
You can , or you could, cloak a completely new domain, and after a months time you could have a PR9 on that domain. Does that means the domain are more valuable...nah, not at all.

Everything google does or says matters, so even if they claim it's valueless, people will pay money for links on your site or value it higher if it has good pagerank. Does it translate to actual ranking or traffic? No. Like the alexa rank, it's kinda disconnected from real figures but at the same time it does have a kind of value of it's own.

short answer: it means nothing.

medium answer: is occasionally an indicator of in link growth, but not worth spending money to boost.

longer answer: your much better off trading with a higher traffic, lower PR site than the other way around. PR isn't going to pay your bills, traffic is.
