Canon vs Nikon
What do you prefer ?
What do you think is a better machine for sharp color and beautiful photos? I prefer the Canon but not really sure yet ![]() __________________

I'd be interested in opinions of Fuji as well - maybe as a high-end amateur camera.

I should have known better

Digital camera's vary more by model than by maker - every major manufacture has produced at least one real dog and most manufactures have had at least one exceptional model so I look at the particular models available when I'm in the market to buy.
That said, I have about $12,000 in Nikon lenses so despite the fact that Cannon has released some VERY nice cameras over the last few years, I've opted for the Nikon's and Fuji's - all of which have done a very good job. I'd love to get my hands on a Fuji S5Pro - but alas, I'm not in the camera market this year and what I have is more that acceptable. |

As I said in another thread: I have 5 Canon lens, 1 Canon flashgun, ... I'm sure the Nikon bodies are great, but probably not great enough compared to Canon bodies to justify the pain/money to replace all my lenses.
The Nikon D300 certainly looks yummy, but when I'll get a new cam in 2-3 months, it'll most definately be another Canon (most likely a 40D) |

WARNING! May ask stupid questions...
|
To me, I would say the Nikon/Fuji bodies, just because of the size of the hands, and the fact that every Canon I have handled feels slightly uncomfortable over extended periods of time.
If it was bigger, I would love a 40D, but presently I cannot justify placing that sort of money in something that would be uncomfortable to use. |

I shoot Canon 1d mk2 with L series Lenses. The reason is, that when Nikon entered the market with the D100 I was looking for a camera, and the Canon D 60 arrived first. Now I am committed because of the glass I own. However, having said that I love Canon. The thing with Nikon in Canada, is their service is not as good. I am in the Canon Pro System and get huge discounts and finally what I really dislike about Nikon is that they don't follow a backward compatible upgrade path. Their new lenses always seem to have some little feature that only their new cameras will access. And that pisses me off

I am liking Nikon. I thought about going over to Canon until I compared the 40d with the d300. Keeping track of what features work on which Nikon is admittedly an issue, but its mostly and issue with loosing automation if you use older lenses.
What I really like are Nikon's flash systems, which have always seemed better to me than Canons. Off-camera ttl with 3d matrix metering is sweet. Of course I am now committed to Nikon for both glass and a nice flash. Canons had a smoother looking image to me, but with the D300 Nikon seems to have caught up. They are both excellent systems and hard to go wrong with either, but for me Nikon seems a better fit. |

I have been using Nikon for years. Canon is good too though but yeah, Nikon is the choice for me.
