Get a EF-S 17-55 f/2.8! they are a bit pricey, but worth every $.
it's my "main lens" on my 350D and I love it (used to have a 17-85 before).

Wide apperture lenses offer amazing possibilities BTW.
I have a 50 f/1.8, a 30 f/1.4 and used to have a 20 f/1.8. I've made some very neat outdoor pics with them although I have yet to try them for an adult shoot.

Yes get a EF-S 17-55 f/2.8!,
I'll have that on my Canon D400 and it's great.

The problem with shooting adult and a really low aperture is that you don't always want most of the girl out of focus. The odd close up shot of just her pussy or nipples with the rest blurred is cool, but sometimes you want sharp images right from her eyes down her whole body.

Very difficult to keep your model sharp (especially legs and face shots) without bumping up to F5.6, F8 or even higher.

If you're on a budget, I'd say invest in lighting over low F-stop lenses.
