Ring flashes are usually used for macro, but it's making a nice effect on your picture.
That + your custom remote would most definately earn you the 'Netpond's geekiest photographer' award :-)

Well most Maxim magazine and Stuff covers are shot with Ring Flash

I think Dean Capture Productions | Professional Glamour Erotic Photographer Hollywood, CA also uses ringflash ....not ring light

This would be good for macro.
