Dropped speedlight
So I dropped one of my speedlights a 430ex. It would just make this whirring sound when you fire it up because the flash head was jammed in the track it rides on.
Here is some pictures so you can see what happend...just incase it happens to you.  The head slides back and forth on that white track.Note I never drop my 580EX though lol....it just doesn't roll off tables like the 430 does  __________________

You get your speedlite fixed? It looks from the photos that the drive slider came dislodged off the worm gear, but I cannot tell too much with the shots, as they seem slightly off focus.
If you didn't get it fixed, you could extend the lighting cables and use it as the flash for your ring light project, and use the body on the hotshoe... |

pic 1 is it not working, pic 2 I fixed it
u can click the pic to make it bigger  I was thinking about that using it in the ringflash like you said good idea.....but it's pretty new and costly and I need it for regular stuff.  and cutting up a new flash would make me go nuts lol. I'm going to see if I can find a used flash for that....but I was very close to doing that because I couldn't figure out what was wrong lol__________________

Glad you got it sorted!
I've had a flash fail on me this weekend... Very frustrating! More so, when she who holds the purse strings, thinks that little pop up job on top of the camera is good enough! |
