Massive linking

I read that adding alot a links on a short period hurt the se ranking. I find it very strange because it means we can hurt the seo of any website by doing this. So myth or reality ?

I saw this, when bought a lot of links in short period. but i hope, this is just sandbox for some months. I think it is some kind of myth. It hurts you for a while, but in the long run you will get better rank than others with less backlinks

So lot of links in a short period does lead to sandboxing your website ? Even if it's not a new site. Maybe Google do that to prevent fast push spamsite.

It's definately not a myth that too many links can hurt your ranking. The definition of what a lot of links is differs though. Many people get 100+ links without a problem, if you are getting 1000+ then common sense shows the search engine something is wrong, because you can't logically get thousands on links on the same day or in the same week. The solution is to add links over time, not 1000's in one go.

So if someone(ah ! those devil people) can get fast hundreds of poor quality links to one of my website, the ranking will drop ? It's a litlle unfair.

If you get hundreds of links over time there's no evidence it makes any difference. If you get hundreds quickly then it does make a difference.

Yeah it depends on the quality of the links really and how fast they get indexed. Anyone can put up a lot of links to a website to bring it down, it happens, although probably not worth the effort as google will index the links at different times, links get approved at various times etc.

SEs will think that you are spamming thats why you gather so much links in a short period of time. Make your link building natural...don't over do it...it is not all about the quantity but the quality of links linking to you.

Too many links cannot hurt your site- I have a 1 month old site- I've built 10k links already not hurting me at all..it cannot hurt your site because you have no control over who links to you- if that was the case- i would just point 100k links at my competitors in like 2 days and kill thier rankings- doesn't work like that

Here are two points of view I don't suggest anyone heed too closely.
