Thread: The browser wars are due to start again!

The browser wars are due to start again!

Finally, MSIE has a competitor - it's Mozilla Firefox and I have extensively tested it - there are a few bugs left (it's open source and free, what do you expect?) - but it's a very sound product. What's more I find it somewhat faster at displaying pages - and a LOT faster when handling https.

Reminds me of 1996 - when Netscape had 90% and MS had 10% - this time MS have 95% but Firefox has what's needed to succeed. I have it as my default browser now...

And when the browser wars were happening, it was the golden age of Internet porn. Could we be on the verge of a new one?

    - Robin.

yea but, 9/10 people who are normal surfers wont up and get firefox...

since IE is integrated into windows, that is what will always dominate :t:

    sad to say

It is no use ,think about Netscape ,it had large market before

and it also under control of Microsoft after the war ,

so it is very hard to lanch a war towards Microsoft, it is too Strong

I say - there is a Microsoft backlash due... You are right, though - the average surfer won't give a monkeys - but... tech by tech, geek by geek, webmaster by webmaster - this will change - already Firefox is being downloaded in the millions...

    Definitely one to watch...

yea but, the average surfer makes up like 98% of the traffic on the net...yea, amongst people that know better, firefox or opera or something other than IE is a necessity i agree

An uphill struggle it will be - but... Netscape did it once 10 years ago - now the creators of it are older and wiser - I expect the simplicity of Firefox - and it's strength against Spyware will help.

Just because MS now have 95% of the market does not mean they will keep it. They routed Netscape by giving away their browser for free - firstly it was crap but they improved it. With Netscape vanquished they gave up - now opensource *may* have a chance to fight back because MS gave up browser innovation in 2001,

thats true, well, just tell everyone you know about it, that goes for everyone, word of mouth would help facilitate the fall of Internet Explorer (or perhaps the enhancement of it)

    Get Firefox here

    I thoroughly recommend it.

It won't be quite what you are used to... (some commands, menus & stuff are different) But it's independent - and it works very well..
