Hello there,

We are currently working on opening a pay site chain( 5-10).
These will be our first pay sites, we have an ability of a getting a
large amount of targeted traffic, but we never owned a pay web site.I have been reading many posts in many sources, but it becomes questionable which information to trust.

Main Questions:

1.Conent

a.Lease content or purchase?
(as I've seen many paysites having leased)
b.How many images eproximately to begin with?
c.What is important for content:specifics:
*movie
*cartunes
*chat
*streaming video
*games

2.Subscriber loyalty

a.What is an average ratio of people staying after signing up?
Say out of 1000 s-ups?

3.Sites quantity
a.What is a minimum.quantity to start with?
1 site? 5 sites?


The reason why I'm asking these questions, as we have quite large amount of traffic avalable to us.We have been successfully promoting othere companies, but now are thinking of opening our own web sites.

If only opening a paysite was as simple as baking a cake. Put all the ingredients into a bowl, stir well and bake for 50 minutes.

Fortunately for those that have profitable paysites it is a bit more complicated.

Look at your traffic first, is it looking for teens or mature, soft of exteme? When you have isolated the favourites, go out and buy as much content of the same niche and style the largest part of your traffic wants. Buy the content on quality not price.

Build one site that you could happily spend a month in looking and downloading your favourite pictures/videos, to jerk off to at a later date.

Make the site honest and straight forward, do not use tricks to con the surfer. This will take a little longer to get going, but with the new 1% Charge Back rule essential.

When the site is up and running go out and add a lease gallery to augment what you have, again look for quality over price.

When the site is up and running on it's own look to start another one targetting another section of your traffic. Build it slowly and surely.

A house built in a day can be knocked down in an afternoon.

I have had my hand in running 12 or so paysites for a while now and it has been a real learning experience so I will try to help.

Firstly, if you don't know how to get 5 sales a day already, can't target and filter traffic, and don't have any plans on how to get affiliates then you should hold off. The idea of 'build a paysite and people will promote me' is 100% wrong. It takes hard work to get affiliates and 80% of the affiliates you get send little or no traffic anyway.

Now to your questions ...

1. Buy content. content is so cheap now that you can get content for an entire paysite for $2000-$5000 videos included ! Make sure you negotiate a good price when buying in bulk. If you are doing a mainstream porn site (eg teen, bigtits, amateur etc), then you should try to get about 20-50k pics and 1k or so videos to start with, but the content is pretty cheap.

If doing niche then try to get at least 5k pics and a good spattering of videos. Maybe lease a few feeds, and a few live shows with upsell kickbacks.

Reinvest sales in content to help retention. It will help your bottom line. Whats the use of 20 sales a day when 90% cancel their trial, or ask for a refund because you have less in your members area than a tgp front page?!

Games, stories etc can help retention, but core content is king. Dont make a cute teen site with ugly amateur girls.

2. Loyalty is based on how much you have to offer and how often you update. Give em the same 5k pics and 50 videos and never update, and then don't expect many rebills. Gotta make it look fresh, keep it updated with new content etc.

Per 1000 signups ... it would depend on too many factors. Niche, tour, layout, content, updates, feel of the site, promo methods, the list goes on forever. But to do 1000 signups in a period (say a fortnight) you would either need to buy traffic or have some serious high level deals going.

3. I suggest sticking with a few starting sites which share content. Eg .... for mainstream porn - Cute teen site, coeds site, teen hardcore site ...... for niche ...... well dig around ;-)

I STRONGLY suggest joining a few of your leading competition sites (trial only) and checking them out before you start. How much do they have in their member's area, how is it all set out .. how does it feel ?

But coming back to my main suggestion, don't believe that if you build it they will come. It just isn't the case. And test your tour/conversions for a few months before starting a push for affiliates. First impressions only happen once.

_LB_ has a lot of good advise there. But be careful of the bit about content There are two reasons people sell it off cheap, one is they could not sell it at full price and the other is it is done to death at full price and not they are in the process of getting more sales at any price they can.

The surfer who is prepared to pay is getting more and more educated. If he sees lots of images he has seen before he is likely to charge back or not even join.

Unless you really know content go for quality, content providers who are selling well are doing so becasue their content gets and keeps members. The guy giving it away is not doing it out of kindness.

Paul, you have a lot more experience than me in Internet Adult, so thanks for helping us all out with your advice!

What I was getting at with content is that *most* content providers are suffering from lower margins, smaller sales, and are getting kinda desperate. We have been able to drive some absolutely amazing deals with providers who wouldn't budge 4 months ago. All I was saying is that now is a good time to buy your content since it is such a depressed marked for content providers.

My figures were wildly approximate at best!

No problem LB. There are some good deals out there. but I would take a guy who knew about cars to buy a second hand one, especially if the guy was offering a deal. Why sohould content be any different?

Here is a simple aand broad rule based on the idea that we sell fantasy, not reality.

Look at the picture/video and ask yourself. "Is she ready to fuck me and do I want to?" For nine out of ten of the niches we work in if the answer is YES/YES then you have content.

You are selling the fantasy that the girl will satisfy the viewers fantasy, he is not jerking off to her body, he's thinking what she will do for him if he had only the chance to meet her.

Selling a sizzling aromatic steak is easier than selling a cold chunk of meat.

Andy--I would take Pauls and LBs advice to heart--

Make sure you are shopping around and asking as many questions as you can.

Content can be dirt cheap, but also can be shitty quality.
Having shitty content will not retain members or attract new ones.

Paul for instance has excellent content and a great mind for the business--

I dont know LB or his site too well, but after reading his comments I agree completely--don't believe that if you build it they will come.

Some how i missed this thread... But LB and Paul pretty well have it coverd.. I will throw my 2 cents in, and say one thing to make sure it is said at least a couple of times.. If you cant filter and drive traffic to a paysite, and if you dont have a killer front door, and once inside you dont have super content.. your going to suck eggs in the begining.. its tuff to open a paysite, and then try to learn marketing, you should learn the marketing side before you even drop one dime into makeing a paysite.. its pretty tuff.. just my 2 cents..

When you look for content you may have a closer look to http://www.skan-media.net
You will find special deals with starter packages where you get about 33.000 photos for just 300€ and you also will find some leased galleries starting at 35€ per month with 1.300.000 photos and about 43.000 minutes of videos. Voyeur cams are alos included!
