HTML Only???

Hey guys, I was wondering how important ya'll thought it was to have an HTML only version of a site like this: http://www.lumyr.com?

I haven't done that with any of my Flash designs in the past, because I figured most webmaster must have Flash... but ya never know...

very important. i dont like flash sites, and there are plenty of people on dialup still that dont want to wait for a flash site to load.

I would have to agree with bmk. Even tho the numbers of people using broadband are rising, the core of the internet still uses 56k or below to connect.

I took the advice to heart and did an HTML only version last night, thanks. I'm gonna watch the stats now and see what happens to each. Should be telling... =]

back a few months ago when i was on dialup i wouldnt bother visiting some flash sites

Here's what I turned up for the stats:

Out of 106 visits yesterday...
55 Flash version
32 HTML Only

No clue where the other 19 people went. =]

So it looks like HTML only is important on the webmaster side too. We got about 80% to the flash which is on the high end of the 65% - 85% Flash install estimates, but to be expected since it's webmasters.

We love flash so we are biased, but both is good, first time id check the flash version but each time after that i would go for the html version

If I was visiting a site like that I would choose to see the Flash version b/c I'd be curious to see what an adult web site design company was capable of creating....


I just "remodelled" a college division's website b/c the flash and DHTML took too long on old PCs used by most of the faculty ...

I think it depends on who the audience is..... and why they are visiting... :eatpcorn:

Hey Meat!!! All's well thanks. I agree - I usually do the HTML version the second time and thereafter too. I even do that when referencing my own site.

Music is good. I produced a female songwriter that's making some headway. The studio is getting moved around as I get ready to change living arrangements.
