How do I avoid links that hurt?

I have a list of my blogs here:

all of them are new except the top one. That site I made searches each site for the pornstar's name and shows their position on google and yahoo in the first two columns. The 3rd column is the number of uniques since midnight. If no number is shown its not in the top 100 positions for the search engine or there was a error (that happens with yahoo a lot).

As you can see a couple of them are successful, most are not. I have no idea why. The lichelle marie site took off before I added meta keywords or a site map so I left them off. I added to them to the rest because I read it helps.

I have bought a few hardlinks and that seems to really help. Especially if its a pr4 and not totally whored out with tons of links. One time 3 years ago I used aceware submitter to spam the one older site at the top (keri-sable) to 400 link dumps. Google blacklisted me or put me in the sandbox for 2 years. I noticed the hardlinks help but apparently if they are on a link dump they can hurt. Was it getting so many links in 1 day that fucked me or where those sites pegged as shitholes? I want to buy more links now to grow faster but I don't want to hurt myself.

Any insight as to why I have a few sites doing well and the others arent would be appreciated. Same goes for how to grow faster with a little artificial help and not pissing google off.

Its very hard sometimes to know if you are submitting your site to the wrong kind of site. Linkdumps/linkfarms are not liked by search engines and in general they can jeopardize your search engine listing. But you have to way up whether you want lots of visitors or to relly on visitors for search engines.

For many of us search engines are the key to making money.

A new site can get a great ranking on search engines if it fills in some missing parts on that particular engine, for example a site specific to a pornstar is something that there is not many sites on. Yes lots of sites do features on pornstars but not many actually specifically focus on a particular one. A search on lela star shows only 219,000 matches on google, thats low in Google terms.

If your keywords and meta tags match your sites content and its specific to something then search engines tend to look favourably at sites like that.

Try and avoid sites that have a huge amount of links on them (by huge i mean at least 50 outbound links) as google considers them as linkfarms.
