How accurate is alexa?

I was just looking at a site with 5000 pages in its blog and then when I looked at it through alexa it was only ranked 7,500,000 - that can't be right.

It's impossible to answer that question. Alexa only recently changed how they rank sites, so until its been active for a few months no one will know whether its accurate or not.

The old Alexa ranking system was not accurate at all.

Nope, the old alexa ranking system just used the results it gathered from those people who used it's toolbar.
Personally, I think they need to do what Compete and Quantcast have done and allow the webmaster to implement a piece of code to track the correct hits/uniques

Just use it as a benchmark rather than something to rely on.
