At this point your sign is off. ![]() Ok, click on your text layer, right click and Blending Options: First mark stroke and follow the settings below. Make sure you choose a some number for the Size, such as 12... Follow this picture: ![]() Click the gradient to bring up the the Gradient editor window. Man this is one of the best threads I've read
And thanks for that superb template Absolute! I've been mucking about with photoshop for years and never achieved anything lol... One thing I'm having trouble with is I can create 3-d style lettering as in page headers etc... But I can only make them look 3d on the page if their background colour is exactly the same colour as the web page ... I keep trying to do transparancy but I think I'm on the wrong lines ![]() Any tips would be a great help ![]() __________________

I was bored so i thought id write a DIY for professional looking text. This one shows the power of bevel/emboss and contour function in photoshop which can transform any text into something with wow factor.
The final image is this, which took me just 5-10 minutes to achieve. I dont think its too good for headers, but learning skills like this will give you more flexibility in the future ![]() Im not going to guide you through this one too much, if you've read enough of this thread your skills should have improved enough for you to follow what im saying - however, if you do need clarification, PM me or leave a message in here. ![]() OK begin by writing your desired text on a blank white canvas. I used Impact with a paragraph letter spacing of +75 to separate the letters a little. Paragraph spacing can be adjusted here: ![]() After this were going to right click our text layer on the layer menu and select Blending Options This will bring up the box with some options down the side. Select Bevel and Emboss. TIP: When your playing with effects, make sure you can see the text as it will update everytime you change. It will be behind the box however, so its useful to move it into a viewable position. This is especially for smaller monitors. Back on track! The bevel and Emboss function is powerful enough alone to give you sweet looking text. The main things we will be playing with are the Style of Bevel/Emboss, the Depth of the Effect, Size of Bevel and Gloss Angle Here are the values I used for my text: ![]() The one that changes the most is the Angle of Gloss. It can transform text quite dramatically, and offers a range of effects for you to play with. This is what you should see: ![]() Next, up were going to add a Pattern to the text, once we've found the style we like. This isnt going to be overpowering. I used this plain old pattern for the example: ![]() This was just to give an icey/cold effect to my text Play around, by now you should see your text already transformed. Im not going to write a clear tutorial, because with this feature just one slight change can totally manipulate the text. Its about playing around with values, angles and opacities to find the text effect you're after. Any questions, like I said, leave here or PM me. Alex |
