I thought about emailing people to join the group, but the only emails I have are for people who are already members of my video game site & forums. I don't see the point in trying to get them to join the group when they're already members of my site. The whole point of this is for new traffic right?!

Having no experience with yahoo groups, I am clueless as to how this works. Do people just join yahoo groups out of thin air? I've noticed yahoo groups with 10,000+ members, and groups with 5 members... Not sure what's going on...

That's a nice question ... I have similar problems with my mainstream groups so would like to hear Thomas's opinion on this problem...

Your best bet is to find other related Yahoo groups, and register yourself and make an interesting introduction as a first post (so that you do not look like you want to spam their group), and then you can talk about your group in another post. (that is if the group is moderated)

Have a look at their links section where you will find more related groups. (make sure to add your group to their links section too!)

Place a banner of your group on your site(s) Yahoo supplies these Yahoo buttons you can use for that!

You will see that you will get many members if you can keep them active, and post good stuff for them!

I would look for unmoderated groups along the same line as mine and invite those people to come join my group.

Set up a Blog like http://downloadfreegamesblog.blogspot.com/

with all the free stuff at the bottom of it and advertise to other related groups " Download Real Free Games Now , Not Trials Full Versions "

On the Blog over in the side bar and at the bottom among the games put a subscribe box for the Group you are trying to get members for.

The more sticky content you put on a Blog the more people that will come by to visit and the more that will return again and again. In todays market you have to have a hook to get them to the page and one to keep them on the page and to keep them coming back. If you can do this you will be successful.
If you look earlier in this thread you will find all kinds of sticky content you can use on your blog.

Incidently you can add sticky content to the front of a Yahoo Group or build a Blog like I said and add it in a I-Frame on the front of the Yahoo group

I have a question for you, you build these blogs for people so they click on your ads right?
Why is it that you have so little advertisment on your page, or am i missing something here ?

These two Blogs were built for adsense and they are working very well for that. I am going to be adding some more stuff to them but adsense will continue to be the major advertiser on these blogs. I will be adding forums in a I Frame at the bottom of each and advertise other stuff typically amazon in there.

Hi Thomas,

I wasn't sure if you did this on purpose not so I thought I would point it out just in case... On both mainstream blogs your Google Adsense ads come after all of the content. The column that has your About Me, links, I-Frame, Adsense, etc, display after the last post way down the page.

It just looked like that column belonged at the top to the left or right of the content and I though maybe that was an accident. I know sometimes DIVs and CSS pinch out columns and slam them down at the very bottom of the page at different resolutions... But that didn't seem to be the case on these.

Anyway, just wanted to make sure that was what you were shooting for.... Adsense at the bottom, etc.

What browser are you using. In Netscape and IE they come up in the right place for me.

I'm using WinXP/SP2 with the latest version of IE6 (6.0.2900.2180). A pretty standard setup. I just checked it in FireFox 1.5.0.2 and it is displaying correctly at the top on the right in that browser.

Also, my resolution is 1024x748 on a 17" monitor. Again, pretty standard setup. I'll take a look at the code and test a little to see if I can find the problem.

Maybe some other members can check out these sites and let us know if the Google Adsense column is displaying at the top for them or not and which browser, etc? That would be great.

yes I would appreciate it because in mine it is showing right but if not in others I need to change something.

I just checked and the top part of your HTML on both sites is really thrashed... that's probably what's causing it. There is a lot of code before the opening HTML tags, including Adsense code, then the HEAD and HTML opening tags section is repeated more than once... like a large chunk of code from another page was pasted in there at the top or something...

If you need any help cleaning it up let me know. I wasn't sure if you were familiar with HTML or just use an online editor or something that mangled the code.

Thats the adsense code doing that. It was fine the other day so I don't know why it started doing that. It looks good in Netscape but not IE. Got to figure out how to fix it for IE. Anyone have any suggestions

If you are adding the Adsense or any other j-avascript code into the WYSIWYG editor at Blogspot that's probably what the problem is. You might want to try switching over to plain text to enter that code.

Although, by looking at the blogspot template, it looks like that may need to be corrected manually. I don't see how all of that extraneous code at the top would be fixed by just editing one of the blocks from Blogspot's admin panel...

How did you add the Adsense code? Directly into the blogspot template in a text editor, through their admin panel, or with FrontPage or Dreamweaver, etc?

I added the code directly into the template and if you look at it in Netscape you will see what the page should look like. I will have my tech take a look at it asap. I don't know why it would change when it was working fine but it did.
