instead of buying traffic, why not educate your webmasters about the value of linking to your site from within their posts? make some kickass buttons and kick some of their votes up so the counts look cool on the button inside the webmasters post....

Ok, I don't own a social bookmarking site. In fact I still have a tough time seeing the value in them for the owner given that most don't even have any ads. But here is my take on it. I don't get enough traffic from most of them to warrant a hardlink. I simply do not! If I wanted to hardlink out I would do so within my network and probably do way better than most of these guys send me or anyone else. I believe in fair but why not if you want to require a hardlink just make a blog aggregator and trade links out? Most of these guys scripts let our post sit there for the amount of time dictated by the script and then it goes bye bye making room for the new, not so that cool button you suggest within our posts my posts stay forever and do get SE traffic and I do submit my posts everywhere possible.
I am pretty upset to discover that I have been submitting to one bookmark site that DOES want hardlinks on your site. Now that kinda sucks any way you look at it they are getting the better end of the deal for sure based on my traffic stats.
What I forsee is if that became a trend we would begin to look like tgp banner farms putting up everyone's so cool buttons, and links to them before we ever started to blog that day, and I am not going to have that kind of banner farm in any post I do.
I do not submit to technorati or delicious and have to hardlink them and they do provide me hugely better traffic. They are my stats and I do watch them.

Thats definitely being incorporated as I slowly revamp the site. I just throw some traffic to the page to test the strength of the script, gain bookmarkers, and reward the people who are populating the pages. By the way havent seen you post in a while!

Actually there's no need to put a link or button on every post. At http://www.xxxsocial.com we're glad to see a small hardlink at the very bottom of your sites. This is only for link popularity building coz we need SE keyword targetted traffic not to get traffic from submitters.

I think it's a part of human nature, and since we're only human, expecting webmasters to put a hardlink up outta the kindness of their hearts is like waiting for...

First off, most people's blog sidebars are cluttered enough with linktrades, that they just don't have space to add a hardlink to every social bookmarking site. It'd be nice to put a text link in the footer, but I don't think it's gonna happen cause people don't wanna leak PR from every single page/post of their blog. Also, as mentioned, all they get in return is a temporary spot on the front page (though their link will remain in it's tags/category forever once it's been published).

I saw another person mention these sites as like link dumps on steroids...and they've gotta point. One of the things that attracts webmasters to even submit is the fact that it's easy, and there's no recip. When I spotted a toplist on http://www.jizzytissue.co.uk/ I thought it was a good idea (gotta give credit where credit's due

Then, webmasters have a choice...

Just like link dumps, they can submit links and bail...and their link will get pushed off the main page soon. Or they can send some hits back, appear in the toplist, and stick around. In many cases, all it takes to get listed is one click...so rather than slapping a hardlink in the sidebar...they can just add a text link in a random blogpost, and every now and then a curious surfer will click on it, and keep them listed on the site.

And having incoming textlinks from random blogposts across the net will be beneficial for the bookmarking site as well...as it may appear more natural to the SE's than a link surrounded by a bunch of others in the sidebar/footer. This is just my opinion.

I agree with Chimera. The social bookmark sites are good because it should be a one way link. If you need a link from me, why would I submit my stuff everyday?

There's no need to submit everyday and if you don't wanna help these sites to grow, don't expect much traffic from them.

And BTW, one way link can be from your blog to main page of social bookmark site and the back link will be from social bookmark site specific category page ( search page, tags, whatever...) to your posts.

That does not work for me - submitted to about 10 of them mentioned in thios thread and got few hits only from one - the one that list automaticly without approving. Does that mean that rest 9 require recip or any other rule I do not know ( But cant be that - otherwise they would write the rule for us to see it right ? lol )

just because you aren't getting traffic doesn't mean it is doing you no good

some of these sites have pretty high rankings themselves and just the targetted post link back alone is worth it

also, there aren't any that require approval or recips in this thread, which ones are you speaking of?

a lot of them will put your post in a queue, but even that queue is publicly available

I think the one that sends me the most traffic is also the dirtiest dealer. I don't bother with them anymore. Another which was pretty ok suddenly lost all the content that brought them traffic once they built it up.
So I don't bother with them 60 percent or more of the hits get redirected I dont expect that does shit for me with google.
You are in essence providing content for these sites.
You can either post to those who don't dirty deal or you can post to all of them, provide them content,and build their traffic and get none up to you AND let them freaking play with google since redirects do nothing for your site with SEs, and cloaked urls don't get indexed when even the bot gets redirected.
I prefer to stick with the people who play it straight. There are maybe a couple out there that don't play games.
For those of you that have seen what I post to the social bookmarking sites then you know my descripts are keyword rich 300 word or more, to the max and good spider food. I will be damned if I will provide that and a trackback to some of you and then get screwed over.
I do however post to the very few that send even a couple of hits don't bury me don't use my content for constant traffic trades and don't hide my urls from the bots.

Oh and bookmarking your site on yahoo will get it indexed and won't get your stuff redirected or suddenly "lost" when they acheive enough traffic to feel they don't need your stuff anymore. So good on you for making sure they at least are worth your time to post to.

I absolutely hate the sites that have a redirected url to get to your site....annoys the fuck out of me and unless they are sending some serious traffic back they aren't worth it

adulse is a GREAT one btw, I have been featured on their home page at least 5 times now and the traffic is excellent

Just checked detailed stats on one of my blogs, these social bookmarking sites were sending me some traffic (at least 100 hits):
www.spankwire.com
socialporn.com
www.adulse.com - this one now does not like thumblogger blogs unfortunately

www.mosexindex.com - also has a limit on thumblogger, but usially accepts it

Rest send very insignificant traffic <30 hits. Oh and yes I spammed that blog at least 5 times with nice lenghty descriptions.
